About Emma's Explorers
Emma’s Explorers is a Care Inspectorate registered out-of-school service offering high-quality childcare before and after school for children attending Dunning Primary School. It is of the utmost importance that the children feel welcome in the setting, and we aim to provide them with a nurturing environment where they can explore, have fun with each other and relax in a safe space. We aim to spend as much time as possible outdoors in nature with the children as it benefits their cognitive development, social skills, independence, ability to take risks and it’s good for their health and wellbeing.
Children will have the opportunity to take part in a range of activities from planting to cooking, child-led play, assessing risk independently, arts and crafts and lots of exploring!
We provide healthy breakfast options (if required) and snacks in line with nutritional standards. We can accommodate specific dietary requirements. Children can also bring food/snack boxes if this is the child’s/carer’s preference.
Our Team
All staff members:
- Are PVG checked
- Hold Paediatric First Aid, Child Protection, and Food Hygiene certification
- Receive regular training and ongoing professional development
We operate a 1:10 staff-to-child ratio, caring for up to 30 children at any one time.
Settling-In Period
We offer settling-in visits, before your child’s official start date. These visits allow children to become familiar with our staff, routines, and setting. Parents are welcome to join for the settling in visit.
If you feel your child needs additional time, we are happy to arrange extra paid settling sessions by mutual agreement. We also include a 4-week trial period from your child’s start date. During this time, either party may end the agreement without notice if the arrangement is not working.
Daily Activities
Children enjoy a mix of structured and free play, including:
- Outdoor games
- Arts and crafts
- Board games and puzzles
- Reading and quiet time
- Group activities and team play
We aim to create a relaxed environment where children can unwind, recharge, and enjoy being themselves.
Snacks & Allergies
We provide a variety of nutritious snacks during after-school club and breakfast during morning sessions for those who arrive before 8:30 am.
We are not an allergy-free setting, but we take great care in how food is stored, prepared, and served to prevent cross-contamination. Please inform us of any allergies or dietary needs during registration.
Communication
We keep in touch with families through:
- Daily handovers
- Email or text updates (Direct or Group)
- Photos (where possible with consent)
You’re welcome to contact us at any time with questions or updates about your child’s needs.
Safeguarding & Wellbeing
We prioritise your child’s safety, wellbeing, and emotional development. All staff are trained in safeguarding procedures, and we have robust systems in place to identify and respond to any wellbeing concerns.
Feedback & Concerns
We welcome feedback and value open communication with all families. If you have any concerns, please speak with a staff member or contact Emma Taylor (Service Manager) directly. We aim to resolve any issues promptly and professionally.
