At Emma’s Explorers Out of School Service, we are incredibly proud of the passionate, experienced and caring team behind everything we do. Each member of our team brings their own unique skills, knowledge and personality — all united by a shared commitment to supporting children to feel safe, valued and inspired.
🌿 Emma – Service Owner, Provider & Manager
Emma is the heart behind Emma’s Explorers. As the service owner, provider and manager, she leads the team while also taking on the important role of Child Protection Officer. With a strong background in childcare and as a mum to two children, Emma brings both professional expertise and personal understanding to her role. She has extensive training and experience in supporting children with additional support needs, ensuring every child is included, supported and able to thrive. Emma has poured her heart into creating a nurturing, safe and welcoming environment where children and families feel part of something truly special.
🌿 Maggie – Senior Childcare Practitioner
Maggie brings a wealth of experience and a truly nurturing approach to the team in her role as Senior Childcare Practitioner. With a background in core services, including care of the elderly, vulnerable adults and as a childminder, Maggie’s caring nature shines through in everything she does. Having previously worked alongside Emma as a childminding duo, they have built a strong, trusted partnership and work incredibly well together. Maggie is passionate about child-led practice and outdoor, nature-based play, creating calm and engaging experiences where children can explore, grow and feel supported.
🌿 Ross – Relief Practitioner
Ross brings energy, enthusiasm and a fantastic connection with the children. With decades of experience managing teams within the energy sector, he has excellent leadership and communication skills that translate beautifully into working with young people. Ross has previously worked alongside Emma in a childcare setting and has valuable experience supporting children with additional support needs. His fun, approachable nature and ability to engage children make him a brilliant addition to the team.
🌿 Elspeth – Relief Practitioner
Elspeth brings an incredible depth of knowledge and experience to Emma’s Explorers. A retired headteacher and HMIe Associate Inspector, she continues to support schools across Fife while also sharing her expertise with our team. Elspeth has spent decades in education, including as a learning support teacher and in senior leadership roles. She was part of one of the first schools in Scotland to pilot the restorative approach, and her understanding of children’s development, wellbeing and support is truly invaluable. She now enjoys her retirement and a slower pace of life while continuing her passion — helping children reach their full potential.
🌿 Kat – Relief Practitioner (Joining Soon)
We are so excited to soon welcome Kat to the team! Kat is the founder of Winstanley Wellbeing and Inclusion and brings an exceptional level of knowledge, passion and expertise. With extensive accreditations — including recognition as a Times Top 100 employer accreditation — Kat has worked with global organisations and managed care services for vulnerable adults. Her focus on wellbeing and inclusion aligns perfectly with our values, and we know she will be an incredible support to both the team and the children.
✨ Our Team Structure
Emma and Maggie form our core, full-time team and lead the service Monday to Thursday, providing consistency, strong relationships and high-quality care for the children. Supporting them, Ross, Elspeth and Kat step into their duty roles as Relief Practitioners — covering staff absences, supporting ratios and ensuring the same high standards are maintained at all times. Their flexibility, experience and dedication mean the children always feel safe, supported and cared for, no matter who is leading the session.
